Hannya and Pxrge Trxxxper Team Up for ABEMA’s New MOGURA Series, Connecting Two Generations of Japanese Hip-Hop

Japanese hip-hop veteran Hannya and rising rapper Pxrge Trxxxper are joining forces for the next chapter of ABEMA’s original drama series MOGURA, bringing together two artists from different generations of the Japanese rap scene.

The announcement has attracted attention because it places Hannya, one of Japan’s established hip-hop figures, alongside Pxrge Trxxxper, a young rapper who gained national recognition after winning RAPSTAR 2025 through the competition’s comeback round.

The two artists will share leading roles in the upcoming series, officially titled Keishicho Mayakutorishimari-ka MOGURA: Kuro Tokuryu Sennyu Sousa. The six-episode drama is scheduled to premiere on ABEMA on December 23, 2026, with all episodes made available together.

For Japanese hip-hop, the project represents another example of rap artists expanding their presence beyond music and into television, acting and wider entertainment.

Hannya Returns to the World of MOGURA

Hannya will return as Shokichi Izanagi, the former police officer and rapper whose character was introduced in the original series.

Known for his direct lyrical approach, powerful delivery and socially conscious storytelling, Hannya has built a long career within Japanese hip-hop. His music frequently explores difficult social realities, personal experiences and the challenges faced by people navigating complicated environments.

His involvement in MOGURA is particularly fitting because the series draws heavily on the relationship between hip-hop culture and the realities of underground criminal networks.

The original production was developed by Osamu Suzuki, with its concept based on real-life accounts shared by rapper Kan a.k.a. GAMI.

Rather than treating hip-hop simply as background music, the series uses rap culture as part of its central narrative. Its characters operate in environments where music, street identity, personal ambition and criminal activity intersect.

Hannya’s return gives the follow-up a connection to the original story while allowing the production to introduce a new character through its second lead.

Pxrge Trxxxper Takes on His First Acting Role

The biggest development surrounding the new series is the casting of Pxrge Trxxxper, who will make his acting debut as Legion, a young rapper attempting to build a future through music but gradually becoming caught up in criminal activity.

Pxrge emerged as one of the most promising young names in Japanese hip-hop after winning RAPSTAR 2025. His victory came through the competition’s comeback round, giving him an opportunity to establish himself in a scene where competition for recognition is intense.

At just 19 years old, his selection as a co-lead in a major ABEMA production represents a significant opportunity to introduce his personality and artistic identity to audiences beyond the usual rap community.

The role also presents a different challenge from performing music. Instead of communicating through lyrics and recordings, Pxrge must bring a fictional character to life through dialogue, physical performance and emotional storytelling.

In the promotional interview released ahead of the series, he discussed his first impressions of Hannya and the experience of working through the demands of filming.

He also reflected on the importance of Hannya’s music, particularly the veteran rapper’s ability to communicate personal experiences and emotions through his lyrics.

A Story Inspired by Real Criminal Networks

The new MOGURA production continues the franchise’s interest in the relationship between hip-hop culture and organized criminal activity.

The title refers to a story involving undercover investigations into criminal networks known in Japan as Tokuryu. These groups are characterized by loosely connected, anonymous and shifting criminal operations.

The narrative follows characters operating in an environment where young people can become vulnerable to criminal recruitment, exploitation and dangerous opportunities.

Legion’s character is particularly important because his ambition to succeed through music becomes complicated by the criminal world surrounding him.

His storyline creates an interesting connection to the realities sometimes explored in hip-hop, including economic pressure, ambition, street identity and the consequences of difficult decisions.

However, the series also places responsibility on its characters, exploring how personal choices can shape their futures.

The involvement of Kan a.k.a. GAMI as the source of the original real-life accounts adds another connection to Japan’s rap community.

Two Generations of Japanese Rap Coming Together

The pairing of Hannya and Pxrge Trxxxper gives the production an interesting generational dimension.

Hannya represents an established generation of Japanese hip-hop artists who built their reputations through years of recording, performing and contributing to the culture.

Pxrge represents a younger generation navigating a music industry that has changed considerably through streaming platforms, online visibility and televised rap competitions.

Their collaboration creates an opportunity for audiences to see how two artists with different career experiences approach the same creative environment.

It also reflects the increasing crossover between Japanese hip-hop and mainstream entertainment.

Rap competitions have become important platforms for discovering new talent, while television productions and streaming services provide additional opportunities for artists to reach audiences outside music.

For Pxrge, appearing alongside an established figure like Hannya could become an important milestone as he develops his career beyond RAPSTAR.

For Hannya, returning to the MOGURA universe allows him to continue exploring acting while maintaining his connection to Japanese hip-hop.

When Will MOGURA Premiere?

The new six-episode series is scheduled to premiere on ABEMA on December 23, 2026, at 9 PM Japan Standard Time.

All six episodes are scheduled to be released together, allowing viewers to watch the complete story rather than waiting for weekly installments.

The October 28 promotional interview featuring Hannya and Pxrge Trxxxper has also given audiences an early look at the relationship between the two leading actors and the experience of working together.

With Pxrge making his acting debut and Hannya returning to a familiar role, the production has attracted attention from both hip-hop followers and Japanese television audiences.

The biggest question now is how effectively Pxrge will translate his musical identity into an acting performance and whether the new series can build on the original MOGURA’s connection to Japanese street culture.

For the Japanese hip-hop scene, the collaboration is another reminder that the influence of rap artists increasingly extends beyond the recording studio.
