BABYWOODROSE & Sonsi Bring Japan’s New Underground Wave to Shibuya WWW X

Two of Japanese hip-hop’s rapidly emerging new voices are coming together in Tokyo as BABYWOODROSE and Sonsi prepare for their first-ever two-man concert at Shibuya WWW X.

The show takes place on November 26 as part of WWW’s ongoing XX series, which pairs hip-hop artists for extended performances designed to showcase their individual styles.

Rather than packing the night with a large festival lineup, BABYWOODROSE and Sonsi will each perform a long set, giving both rappers an opportunity to show exactly where they stand at a moment when their careers are moving quickly.

And the timing couldn’t be much better.

Both artists have experienced major growth over the past year, but they’ve taken very different routes to get there.

BABYWOODROSE Has Been Releasing Music at a Relentless Pace

Tokyo-based BABYWOODROSE only began pursuing music seriously in 2025, but his output since then has been unusually fast.

He released his debut album ALIEN MODE:JP in November 2025 and followed it just a month later with Trapadelic.

Then came a third album, Fuck Da Industry, in January 2026.

Instead of slowing down, BABYWOODROSE continued releasing new material.

In April, he connected with Yuki Chiba for the collaborative album Documentary, putting him alongside one of the most recognizable figures in contemporary Japanese hip-hop.

By August, BABYWOODROSE had already delivered another solo project, Addicted.

That run has helped establish him as one of the more unpredictable personalities emerging from Tokyo’s new rap generation.

His music pulls from Black music and contemporary rap influences while filtering those sounds through his own perspective, often combining unconventional choices with cynical humor and an attitude that doesn’t easily fit into established Japanese rap categories.
