Tokyo, April 18, 2023 — A new wave of Okinawan hip-hop is gaining momentum with the upcoming release of the music video for “LONGINESS REMIX”, a standout track featuring SugLawd Familiar, CHICO CARLITO, and Okinawa’s most prominent rap export, Awich.

The video, premiering today at 7:00 PM, serves as a key highlight ahead of the buzz surrounding 098RADIO vol.1, a compilation curated and hosted by Awich that shines a well-deserved spotlight on Okinawa’s diverse and thriving music scene. Released on March 15 via andmusic, the project brings together heavy hitters from the region including MuKuRo, Yo-Sea, OzWorld, and more.

Directed by Okinawan filmmaker Kohei Yonaha, the video tells a heartfelt story about family reuniting to celebrate a 97-year-old aunt, weaving in visuals of traditional culture like eisa, karate, and the natural beauty of the islands. But this isn’t just about heritage—it’s a fusion of old and new, showcasing Okinawa’s place in Japan’s evolving hip-hop narrative.

“LONGINESS REMIX” first dropped in December 2022 as a prelude to the compilation and has already been gaining traction. Its blend of Okinawan soul, modern trap energy, and raw lyricism makes it one of the most striking songs in the project. Originally part of SugLawd’s SUGAR album (2021), the remix adds fresh flavor through CHICO CARLITO and Awich’s verses.
